After finally settling in at my apartment, I realized I’ve never wrote a story about it! Let me show you where I live in this special place called the Bronx!
This is Hoffman Street! If you head north (straight ahead in the photo) you'll come to the intersection at Fordham Rd. There are bars, student houses, and parks all around the area.
This is my door! I live in the building with 5 other students. This house is referred to as Chess House... Club leaders of Chess club rented this building and threw crazy parties here throughout the years. My first college party was at this building! How crazy is that?
Entering, you can tell the building is pretty old. Marble stairs and an old stairwell give it that unique Bronx feel.
The front door is in the right of this photo. Once you walk in the kitchen runs across the wall to the left, and the couch fills the corner to the right. We have our table in the center of the room, you know... cuz eating is important!
This is our chill area. My friend gave us this huge sectional along with some other furniture because she didn't have the space for it. She generously offered it to us, thank you Julia.
This is where the magic happens. The kitchen stretches all across the living area, making it the centerpiece of the house. Home-cooked meals are crafted here!
Let's make our way down the apartment. First stop is that room to the right!
This is an empty room right now, one of the tenants is not moving in until the fall so me and my flat-mate put a desk in it. It's a great spot to work, I'm writing this story here now LOL. (Bonus points if you spotted the What's Cooking webpage on the computer)
This is another room unoccupied because the tenant is away. I'll erg here everyday, blasting music and sweating profusely.
I have one roommate and his room is to the right of mine. Let's take a look at my room!
I have a bed from IKEA, a dresser that was left here, a chess set in the corner and some sweet smelling candles! The lighting here isn't the best so I use Christmas lights to get that warm light in my room.
ZZZzzzz zzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZzzzzzzz zzzzzz zzzzzzz ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Here's the best part, I have access to the back yard from my room!
Once you step outside you can move all about, just be careful there's glass everywhere!
Due to the parties all year, an impressive amount of trash, broken glass, and cigarette butts accumulated here. We had to do some major cleaning. We ended up clearing out most of it, but some is still there.
This is my favorite part. Part of Julia's furniture included a real bar! We put it in the back and it fits the place quite well. This is where we all socialize and chill out after a long day of work. Christmas lights are strung on the fences, at night it's wonderful! You can hear all the sounds from the Bronx, ice-cream trucks, fireworks, kids playing, cars driving, it's really crazy.
One last picture from the back. I am so happy to live here, it is a perfect first home and the rent is cheap. Although I go back on campus in the fall, I will always be grateful for Chess House. Hopefully I'll be back here over the years for parties and catching up with my old house mates. Cheers!
